Charges in dissident rally case withdrawn

A MAN who had been charged with taking part in an illegal dissident republican parade in Derry has had his charges withdrawn at Derry Magistrate's Court.

Christopher Gillen (63) of Cornshell Fields in the city had been one of a number of men who had appeared last month in connection with the dissident parade on Easter Monday April 2 last year.

At that hearing Gillen's case was adjourned while the rest were convicted and fined £750.

At yesterday's hearing a solicitor for the Public Prosecution Service told the court the charge against Gillen was being withdrawn. The reasons were not outlined in court.
