THE funeral will take place tomorrow of Co Tyrone native and former Trócaire aid worker Sally O’Neill Sanchez who died in a car crash in Guatemala on Sunday.

The human rights worker is being laid to rest in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa following Requiem Mass in the Basílica de Suyapa.

Her former colleagues in Trócaire will come together for a memorial Mass next month in Maynooth to celebrate her life.

The Dungannon woman was Trócaire's head of region for Latin America until her retirement four years ago but continued to live and work in Honduras.

She was described by charity chief executive Caoimhe de Barra as the "heartbeat" of Trócaire for almost 40 years.

Ms O'Neill Sanchez is survived by her husband Roger, children Xiomara, Rhona and Roger, grandchild Pat and extended family.
