INDEPENDENT unionist councillor Henry Reilly's Twitter account has disappeared after a late-night tweet in which he warned "Ulster Protestants will fight hard".

The Newry, Mourne and Down representative typed on Saturday night of "IRA-types telling me the Prods are finished - I would remind the Provos that there is now no British Army or RUC here to protect them - Any war they start will be with Ulster Protestants alone and it will be a fight to the last and Ulster Protestants will fight hard".

The Twitter account @HenryReillyNOEU now does not appear to exist.

Mr Reilly, who said he had not deleted the account himself, said yesterday he too had problems trying to access it.

However, the Kilkeel native said he would "definitely not" re-phrase his tweet if he could send it again.

"I just get this continual stuff coming from the republican movement about removing the British presence from Ireland and all this stuff seemed so aggressive.

"What I pointed out was that when they are talking about the British presence in Ireland that's the British culture and that is the Protestant people and we're here.

"It was in response to a continuous flow of stuff. I don't see it as aggressive. People are continually on my feed saying these things to me."
