A PRIEST is to appear in court this morning charged with two counts of indecent assault on two females.

Fr John Murray (77), a former parish priest at St Mary's in Rasharkin, Co Antrim, was arrested on Saturday evening by police investigating allegations of historical clerical sexual abuse.

Fr Murray, who is understood to have been living in Spain in recent years, was previously curate in St Matthew's in east Belfast as well as other parishes in Belfast and Coleraine, Co Derry.

He moved to Rasharkin in 2009 and was suspended by the Diocese of Down and Connor when the complaint was made in 2016.

Fr Murray will appear at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning.
