A FORMER Ulster GAA official has been appointed head of communications with the PSNI.

Ryan Feeney is currently head of public engagement at Queen's University Belfast and was an independent member of the Policing Board.

Previously he served as head of community development, strategy and public affairs with responsibility for communications and marketing at Ulster GAA until 2015.

Chief Constable George Hamilton said Mr Feeney brought "a wealth of experience from his previous roles".

"Communication and engagement are key to the success of the PSNI and we look forward to the benefit of his knowledge and expertise as we further enhance confidence in policing," he said.

Mr Feeney said he was excited to be joining the team at the PSNI at a critical time for policing.

"I look forward to working with the chief constable and the executive team to enhance the already strong communications and engagement functions of the service," he said.

Mr Feeney will take up his appointment in the spring of 2019.
