A NEPHEW of murdered German backbacker Inga Maria Hauser has made an emotional visit to his aunt's memorial in Co Antrim.

Viktor Liebl laid flowers at the memorial stone in Ballypatrick Forest, near Ballycastle, on Sunday.

Ms Hauser (18), from Munich, was killed 30 years ago after arriving in Northern Ireland on a ferry from Scotland.

Her body was later discovered on April 20 1988  in a remote part of Ballypatrick Forest.

No one has ever been convicted of Ms Hauser's murder.

Following a much-publicised series of appeals to mark the 30th anniversary of the murder, two men, aged 58 and 61, were arrested in the Loughguile area of Co Antrim in May. They were later released pending further police inquiries.

SDLP MLA John Dallat said Mr Liebl wanted to thank everyone who is pursuing justice for his aunt.

"It was a great honour for me to meet Inga Maria’s nephew and to spend time with him assuring him that the grief of the Hauser family is our grief and that of the entire community throughout Northern Ireland and beyond," he said.

"Throughout this island people are praying and hoping that the highly skilled detectives from the PSNI currently working on the case will have success in the courts because only then will there be justice."
