County Donegal’s airport at Carrickfinn in the west coast Gaeltacht has been voted the most stunning in the world by a leading flight booking service.

Pipped into second place in the PrivateFly poll last year, Carrickfinn beat off some of the most famous airports in the world to secure the accolade this year.

The airport operates just two routes (Dublin and Glasgow) but passengers were delighted by its spectacular runway extending out towards the golden sands of Carrickfinn beach and the wild Atlantic Ocean. Carrickfinn beat competition from Nice in France, Queenstown in New Zealand, London City Airport and Miami among others.

The award follows County Donegal being voted the coolest place on earth to visit last year in a National Geographic Traveller poll.
