A 27-year-old man from Co Armagh has appeared in court charged with the murder fiver years ago of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.

Aaron Brady from New Road, Crossmaglen appeared at a special sitting of Dundalk District Court in Co Louth on Sunday evening and was remanded to appear before Cloverhill District Court via videolink on March 9.

He was arrested as he left Wheatfield Prison in Dublin last Sunday.

The court heard that when charged, Mr Brady said "I strongly deny any involvement in the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe".

Earlier yesterday, a man in his 50s was released after being arrested in connection with the murder, with Gardai saying a file was being prepared for the Irish director of public prosecutions.

Mr Donohoe, a 41-year-old, father-of-two, was shot dead in a robbery at Lordship Credit Union near Dundalk in January 2013.
