AES is Northern Ireland's largest electricity generator, owning and operating Ballylumford and Kilroot power stations in Co Antrim.

The company generated 11 per cent of energy across the all-island electricity system in 2016, representing 61 per cent of dispatchable generation capacity in the north.

AES UK and Ireland employs 270 people as well as 170 contractors. In addition to the two power stations in the north it is the developer and constructor of 87.5 MW of onshore wind in Britain and also owns and operates a battery energy storage array at Kilroot.

The project, which was completed in January 2016, provides 10 MW of interconnected energy storage, equivalent to 20 MW of flexible resource, and is the largest advanced energy storage system in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The AES UK and Ireland operation is part of the AES Corporation, one of the world's leading power companies, generating and distributing electric power in 27 countries and employing 27,000 people worldwide.

The Fortune 200 company, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, generated revenues of £9.9bn ($14bn) in 2016, while it owns and manages £25.4bn ($36bn) in assets.
