A 41-YEAR-OLD man appeared in court yesterday charged with breaking into two Co Tyrone churches.

Abraham Jakobovits (41), of Fortwilliam Gardens in Belfast, appeared before Dungannon Magistrates Court charged with stealing a camcorder and £500 from Clogher Valley Free Presbyterian Church on Ballagh Road in Fivemiletown.

He was also charged with breaking into St Mary’s Catholic church on the same road. Nothing was stolen but an internal door was extensively damaged.

The crimes happened between December 19 and 20.

Jakobovits had been on licence when the break-ins happened and faced an additional charge that he failed to provide police with a satisfactory address from October 11 to December 21.

There was no application for bail. Jakobovits's solicitor said his prison licence had been revoked as a result of the charges.

The case will be mentioned in court again next month.
