A WOMAN working in a Belfast bookmaker's was shot twice with a stun gun by a robber who broke in through the ceiling.

The victim was getting ready to open the McLean Bookmakers shop on Woodstock Road at around 9am yesterday when she was confronted by a masked man demanding money.

He pushed her and used what is believed to have been a stun gun twice before escaping empty-handed.

Kevin Devenney of McLean Bookmakers said it had obviously been a well-planned raid.

"She was totally intimidated, this sort of thing you just don't expect to happen - falling from the ceiling," he told UTV.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Mason said: "The man was described as being six foot tall, wearing a black balaclava, navy sweatshirt, black trousers and carrying a navy holdall."

Police appealed to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area at the time to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
