POLICE are investigating a link between two attacks in Belfast in which a stun gun was used.

In the first incident, a man in his 60s was pinned to the ground and punched at Donegall Square North, close to City Hall, at around 7pm on Saturday.

Detective Sergeant Eric Fairfield said: "It was also reported what was described as a Taser stun gun may have been used by the suspect during the assault.

"This must have been an extremely distressing ordeal for the victim who was treated at the scene by staff from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service."

At around 12.30am on Sunday morning, two men, one armed with a stun gun, threatened staff at a business on North Queen Street.

Detective Sergeant Fairfield added: "They threatened a member of staff before fleeing with a sum of money. The staff member was physically uninjured, but has been left shocked by what must have been a traumatic ordeal.

"We believe these two incidents may be linked."

Police have appealed for anyone with information about either incident to contact 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
