THE funeral will be held tomorrow of a young barrister who died suddenly on holiday in Spain.

Shona Killen (27) from Cloughey, Co Down, took ill last Sunday in Benalmadena as she enjoyed a holiday with her boyfriend.

Despite attempts to save her, Ms Killen died the following morning in hospital.

It remains unclear what the cause of Ms Killen's death was. It is understood her devastated family are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to establish how she died.

Family and friends of the young woman are to come together tomorrow to pay their final respects.

Requiem Mass will take place at St Mary's Star of the Sea Church, Nunsquarter at 2pm, followed by burial in Mount St Joseph's Graveyard, Ballycran.

Ms Killen has been described as a highly respected lawyer who was endeared to all who knew her.

The Queen's University graduate was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2011 and specialised in criminal law, civil disputes, family law and mental health law.

Before her death, the Belfast-based barrister began a fundraising campaign, with plans to take part in a charity 'Memory Walk' today.

Ms Killen had said she was participating in a bid to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, due to the condition affecting her family including her father.
