A MAN in his twenties is in a critical condition in hospital following a paramilitary-style shooting in the Creggan area of Derry shortly before 9pm last night

The victim suffered two gunshot wounds in his right leg during the attack in Magowan Park.

He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry, but has since been transferred to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.

Inspector Alison Ferguson said: "His condition is described as critical" and has appealed for witnesses to the shooting to contact detectives at Strand Road on 101 or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The attack comes three days after a man died in a similar shooting in North Belfast.

Father-of-four Michael McGibbon (33) was shot several times in the leg by dissident republicans in an entry at Butler place just after 10pm on Friday.
