ARCHITECTS will be opening their Belfast office to the public in an effort to raise funds for cancer research.
Members of the public will be able to ask expert architects from Belfast firm HLM for their advice on a range of architecture, building and design topics through individual one-hour consultations, in exchange for a £40 charitable donation.
The Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) and PLACE have organised the event on Saturday April 16 to raise funds in memory of Jill Todd, daughter of local architect Barrie Todd, who died from cancer at the age of 23.
The proceeds raised will be presented to The Friends of the Cancer Centre charity to donate to Belfast’s Cancer Research Centre.
Karl Ruddle, head of HLM in Ireland, said the event was a great way for HLM staff “to give something back to the community.”
“We applaud RSUA and PLACE for organising this fantastic initiative which will unite the industry and see architects across Northern Ireland come together to volunteer time and services for a great cause, in memory of the daughter of one of our own peers,” he said.
PLACE Manager Amberlea Neely said that there has been a “fantastic response to date” for the event and urged the public to take part.
“We would encourage members of the public wishing to participate in the event to book their consultation now with HLM, based on James Street South in Belfast city centre, or any of the architects participating in the programme, on Saturday the 16th April for a professional consultation and to get involved in a great cause,” she said.
To book a one-hour ‘Ask an Architect’ consultation, call HLM on 028 904 45700 or book online via the Jill Todd Trust website.
