Steaks have been stolen from a butcher's shop in Co Antrim for the second time within months.

Meat worth £7,000 was burgled from Ferguson Meats in Cullybackey some time between 8.30pm on Wednesday and 7am on Thursday.

Around 30 boxes marked with 'Topping Meats' were taken from the shop on Dreen Road, along with a power washer and cash.

Police appealed for information about the burglary, saying they want to hear from anyone who is offered meat for sale "in unusual circumstances".

Chief Inspector Stephen McCauley said: "Aside from the criminal aspect of purchasing stolen meat, there are also some very obvious health implications for anyone consuming meat from a non-reputable source and we would strongly advise against this on that basis as well".

In October, meat including prime cuts of steak was stolen from the same shop.

Burglars forced open the back door of the shop. They also caused minor damage to the premises.
