Police investigating the murder of a man in west Belfast have been granted a further 36 hours to question a suspect.
The 35-year-old was arrested on Wednesday following the death of a man, named locally as Joseph Brennan from the Poleglass area.
The victim died in hospital following an incident in the Cupar Street area at around 8pm.
It is believed he may have been punched outside licensed premises.
Mr Brennan, who was in his forties and known to friends as ‘Jopey’, has been described as “one of the best”.
Other tributes have described him as “a real character who had time for everyone”, while another said he was “one in a million”.
A death notice described Mr Brennan as the “beloved son of Paul and Bernadette, a loving brother of Paul, Sean and Jim, brother in law of Roisin, much loved uncle of Chloe and Ryan”.
A murder probe was launched by police.
On Friday, a PSNI spokeswoman said: “Major Investigation Team detectives investigating the murder of a man in the Cupar Street area of west Belfast on Wednesday have been granted a 36-hour extension for the detention of a 35-year-old man arrested as part of the ongoing police investigation”.
