CHILDREN from a Ballynahinch church have told the story of the nativity in their own words by starring in a hilarious video production ahead of Christmas.

The alternative telling is entitled The Gift, and sees 25 of the congregation’s youngest members reenacting the nativity as well as giving their own take on the meaning of Christmas.

With production by Matt Gould and narration from local artist Merve Jones, a church spokesperson said that as well as “delivering festive fun and some welcome joy and cheer” the video has already clocked up over 3,000 views.

Setting the light-hearted tone, the festive clip begins with young Abel Rice declaring that a special person born 2,000 years ago was, in fact, “Santa!”

Another confidently tells the camera that Mary and Joseph actually flew to Bethlehem using a parachute instead of by donkey.

Once arriving at the stable - which houses lions, reindeer and elephants - the children also recount how the inn keeper told the couple: “I’m warning you that there’s lots of poo and it really stinks there.”

After the three wise men followed a star to Bethlehem, the children said the party really started with presents for the new born including lots of food, soap for the dishes, a teddy bear and even a Ferrari.
