A man in his sixties has died following a suspected hit and run incident along a Co Derry road.
The fatal collision is understood to have taken place in the early hours of the morning, according to police.
Following the collision, a stretch of the Foreglen Road at Dungiven - between the junctions with Drumrane Road and Dernaflaw Road - was closed in both directions for a number of hours.
It has now reopened, according to police.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) says it received a report that the injured man had been found in the Foreglen Road area at around 1.35am.
According to the force, the man was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment and has since lost his life.
Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has expressed her condolences, describing the man’s death as a ‘tragedy’.
Commenting on the incident, the party’s East Derry MLA said: “This is a tragedy and my thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who lost his life.
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI and assist with the investigation.”
The PSNI is now investigating what it believes may have been a hit and run incident.
Detective Inspector Gillian Connolly, from the PSNI’s Criminal Investigation Department, said: “Police received a report at approximately 1.35am that an injured man had been found in the Foreglen Road area.
“Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from partner emergency services. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly died.
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances, and at this time, we believe that he may have been injured in a hit and run road traffic collision.”
The force is also appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information that may be relevant to its probe to come forward.
“As part of our enquiries, we would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist,” Connolly added.
“Were you in the area between 1am and 2am this morning, Sunday, November 2? Did you see anything that may help with our investigation?
“If so, please call us on 101, quoting reference 123 of 02/11/25, or submit information online athttp://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/“.
