Pair to appear in court charged with possession of assault rifle and ammunition recovered in Derry

Two men arrested after an assault rifle and ammunition were seized in Derry have been charged.

The pair, aged 56 and 59, were arrested after the rife - a variant of an AK-47 - and ammunition were recovered when police searched a vehicle in the city on Tuesday evening as part of an investigation by the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit.

Both men have been charged with possession of a firearm, magazine and ammunition with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property or to enable another person to endanger life or cause serious damage to property, and possession of a firearm, magazine and ammunition in suspicious circumstances.



Both men will appear before Derry Magistrates Court on Friday, and all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
