Man detained after five-hour stand-off at Ballymena housing estate

A man has been detained by police after a five-hour stand-off at a Co Antrim housing estate.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Ballykeel 1 estate in Ballymena on Wednesday night at around 7pm.

It came after reports of a “concern for safety” at a property.

PSNI armed response officers were among those who attended as well as fire crews and paramedics.

A police spokesman said on Thursday: “Police attended the Crebilly Road area of Ballymena yesterday evening, Wednesday 3rd January, following a report of a concern for safety.

“Specially trained officers were deployed to mitigate any further impact to the local community.

“One man was detained following the incident.
