The man who helped launched the career of country singer Nathan Carter has told of how they have had an “amicable parting of the ways”.

John Farry, who managed the Liverpool-born singer’s career for 14 years, said that despite their split, they still have a “seriously good relationship”.

The pair have worked together since Mr Farry spotted Carter on stage in Buncrana in 2009 with the singer’s career taking off in 2012 with the release of his biggest hit Wagon Wheel.

But Mr Farry said they have now decided to go their separate ways as Carter is focused on pursuing the UK music scene.

“From a business point of view, Nathan just wants to go it alone and he has plans to expand his career in the UK,” he told the Sunday World.

“He wanted to own his own company.

“We were partners in Nathan Carter Music Group Ltd, which we are in the process of breaking down now and sorting the assets.

“We had a mature discussion on it last year. We decided to run it to the end of the year and wish each other well.

“It’s an amicable parting of the ways.”

Mr Farry, who himself enjoyed musical success particularly with his song Mysterious Woman finishing second in the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest with singer Marc Roberts, recalled when he first spotted Carter on stage.

He said they “hit it off immediately”.

“I first saw Nathan at a concert in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana in April 2009,” he said.

“I was on the same bill, but I was completely knocked out by his presence.

Nathan Carter welcomed the development

“There was a bunch of seasoned artists performing that night, but Nathan stole the show. He was just on another level, even at that stage.

“He was so young and yet his voice was so good and pure.

“I use the word ‘discover’ when I talk about that night because I could see that Nathan had star appeal.”
