One person has been taken to hospital following a suspected arson attack at a block of flats in Co Down.

A fire was reported in the Crochan Court area of Bangor shortly after 1.35am on Sunday.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which caused damage to a rear door and minor smoke damage to the interior of the building.

A PSNI spokesperson said they believe the fire was deliberate and an accelerant had been poured over the door.

“Three residents of the block of flats were present at the time, and one was taken to hospital by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service as a precaution,” they said, adding: ”We are appealing to anyone with information regarding this incident, who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious, to contact police by calling 101, quoting reference 163 of 10/03/24.”
