The woman whose body was recovered from the Ulster Canal had “dreams and a future filled with endless possibilities”, a relative has said.

Named locally as Kelly Marie Lynch from Gilford, she has been described as a “bright light in all of our lives”.

The remains of the 23-year-old were found in the waterway of the Ulster Canal on Sunday at around 8.30am.

Gardaí have said they investigating the discovery of her body.

“A post mortem examination has been arranged and the results of this examination will determine the course of the Garda investigation,” a spokesperson said.

Tributes have been paid to the young woman, who was originally from Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh, describing her as “beautiful” and a “ray of sunshine”.

A fundraising page has been set up by Ms Lynch’s aunt, Pamela McCormack, who said it was with “heavy hearts that we come to you today to ask for your support during this incredibly difficult time”.

“My beloved niece Kelly, just 23 years young, was taken from us far too soon,” she wrote.

“Her sudden passing has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled.

“Kelly was not just a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin; she was a bright light in all of our lives.

“Her laughter, compassionate heart, and love touched everyone in her life.

“She had dreams and a future filled with endless possibilities, but tragically, those dreams have been cut short.”

She added that as the family prepares to “navigate through the depths of grief, we are faced with the harsh reality of funeral expenses”.

“In the midst of our sorrow, the financial burden weighs heavily on our shoulders,” she said.

“That’s why we are reaching out to you, our community, for support.
