A Donegal man is to climb Mount Errigal seven times in one day to raise money to help the victims of the war in Gaza.

Miceal Boyle will undertake his marathon task on Easter Saturday.

From Meendernasloe between Annagry and Lochanure, he said he was moved to do the climbs by the suffering of the people of Gaza at the hands of the Israeli Defence Force (IDF). More than 30,000 people have been killed since the IDF launched its war following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas in which more than 1,200 were killed and more than 200 hostages taken back to Gaza.

Mr Boyle said he felt he had to do something after watching the “heartbreaking scenes” from Gaza in recent months.

“Like most people I was horrified at the numbers of children in particular who are being killed daily. Just as heartbreaking are the children left behind with no surviving families, starving and cold.

“The destruction of the hospitals has also led to unimaginable suffering and, on top of all this, they are now faced with a forced famine. I felt that I had to try and do something to help in any small way that I can so I have decided to try and raise funds and awareness for Palestine by climbing Errigal seven times on Easter Saturday,” he said.

Any funds raised will be sent directly to Action Aid Ireland and the Palestinian Red Crescent who are providing essential humanitarian aid.

“Any donation would be very much appreciated to try and help the people of Gaza during what has to be one of the darkest periods in modern history,” the Donegal man said.
