Bakery and hot food chain Greggs is set to open two new outlets in Northern Ireland.

The sausage roll specialist has secured new locations in Bangor and Craigavon, with planning officials now considering separate applications for the new sites.

Greggs, which already operates from Bangor’s Main Street, is now eyeing a second site close to Sainsbury’s at the Dunlop Commercial Park on Balloo Link.

The unit was previously occupied by a drycleaner business and power tool retailer.

The Bangor-based Dunlop Group recently placed the commercial unit on the market, with the rent of £22,000 per year.

The planning application for the new Greggs shop has been lodged by Brunswick Manor Limited, a business associated with the Dunlop Group.

At 3,200 sq ft, the new Bangor site would make it one of the largest Greggs outlets in Northern Ireland.

Greggs is also expected to open its first ever drive-thru in Northern Ireland at the Marlborough Retail Park in Craigavon.

A planning application has been lodged by Turkington Properties for the proposed car park site, next to the Burger King drive-thru at the Co Armagh retail park.

Subject to planning approval, it would take the number of Greggs locations in the north to 20.

The food chain’s latest new shop in the north opened at the Abbey Centre in Co Antrim in November 2023.

It follows the closure of around five Greggs sites in Northern Ireland over the past few years.

Greggs has closed outlets in Omagh, Larne, Ballymena, Newry and Belfast’s Royal Avenue since 2020.
