A MAN was remanded into custody today accused of robbing a north Belfast chemist and being armed with a knife.

Jonathon Carville (20) allegedly took quantities of pills during a raid on McKenzies Pharmacy on the Ardoyne Road on Monday.

Carville, of The Demesne in Carryduff, appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court charged with robbery and possessing an offensive weapon, namely a knife.

The alleged offences involved taking quantities of Pregabalin and Diazepam tablets.

A PSNI detective said he could connect Carville to the charges.

Defence solicitor Shane O'Neill did not cross-examine him during the brief hearing. Mr O'Neill told the court his client may mount an application for bail next week.

On that basis District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded Carville in custody to appear again by video-link on December 13.
