POLICE in Ballymoney are appealing for witnesses following a paramilitary style assault at a house in The Crescent area of the town at the weekend.

Four masked men forced their way into a house at 7.45pm on Sunday and assaulted a man in his thirties.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

A man and woman who were also in the house at the time were forced into the kitchen during the assault.

They were uninjured, however police have said they were left badly shake by the incident.

Detective Sergeant McColgan said: "Whilst these injuries are not life threatening, this was a brutal and horrific attack.

"It is yet another example of how criminal groups seek to control communities through fear and violence."

Meanwhile, detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch, investigating violent dissident republican activity, arrested a 42 year old man in west Belfast.

The man was arrested yesterday and taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station for questioning.
