AN elderly man has appeared before Dungannon Magistrates Court accused of driving a mobility scooter on a public road whilst drunk.

Eugene Charles Brennan (69) of Fairmount Park, in the Co Tyrone town, was also accused of resisting police who attended with him after observing his demeanour whilst driving the scooter.

It is alleged the offences were committed in the George Street area of Dungannon on November 8.

A police officer told the court both matters could be connected.

Brennan made no reply in answer to the charges and spoke only to confirm his identity.

District Judge John Meehan remanded Brennan on continuing bail to return to court on 3 January.
