A TODDLER found barefoot in the street in north Belfast, wearing a Peppa Pig onesie, has been reunited with his family following a frantic police appeal.

The little boy, who was unable to tell police his name or where he lived, was found wandering around on his own in the cold by a resident of the lower Old Park area, who took him into her home and called police.

The PSNI originally posted an appeal for the parents of the child to come forward saying: "A resident of Lower Oldpark has found a small missing boy in the street. He is about three to four years old with blond hair, wearing a green Peppa Pig onesie with no socks or footwear".

At the time he was found on Sunday evening police had no reports of any missing child, posts on Facebook suggested the child had managed to find keys and let himself out of his home in the Manor Street area without his family realising.

A short time, following over 200 comments on the PSNI north Belfast's Facebook page the boy was re-united with his family.

The PSNI said: "We have located our found child’s family and are now making more enquiries to ascertain what has happened. Thanks for all your help and the main thing is that the little boy is safe and well.

"Again, we are really grateful for all your help, support and share. It shows again what can be done when everybody works together."
