CROKE Park will no longer allow backpacks or large bags into the stadium.

The Dublin home of Gaelic games has said following a review of safety procedures only small bags measuring no bigger than A4 size will be allowed at matches and concerts.

However Croke Park warned that all bags "may be subject to searches and patrons are urged not to bring bags at all where possible".

The change will come into effect from June 25.

People attending matches or concerts have been advised to be at the stadium at least an hour before the event is due to start. They have also been warned there are no bag storage facilities near Croke Park.

The venue will host several concerts this summer including U2's The Joshua Tree tour and Coldplay next month. Hurling and football semi-finals and finals will also be held later this summer.

A Croke Park spokesman said in a statement: "We would like to thank our patrons in advance for their cooperation with this matter as we look forward to a fantastic season of concerts and matches in Croke Park over the coming months".
