A RALLY is to be held in west Belfast on Thursday to protest against ongoing anti-social behaviour in the area.

Organised by the Falls Residents Association and called "Take Back Divis", the demonstration will begin at the Maureen Sheehan Centre on Albert Street at 7pm and is designed to "show support for terrorised residents".

Referring to the latest incident, in which a street robber attempted to steal a tourist's camera bag on Albert Street on Thursday, Belfast IRSP representative Michael Kelly said: "The Falls Residents' Association, collectively supported by political parties in the area, are calling upon as many people as possible to join with them in a walk of solidarity.....to show support for terrorised residents and to demonstrate to those doing harm to the community, that suffering locals are not alone."

Last week it emerged that youths had smashed their way into a block of flats at Ross Street to use communal hallways for drug activity.

There have also been reports of car-jackings and break-ins, including luggage and passports being stolen from tourists' cars.

In February last year, more than 500 people attended a public rally outside the Maureen Sheehan Centre.

It was organised after 76-year-old Maureen Shepherd was hospitalised for a broken jaw and a damaged eye socket after being mugged while returning from an appointment at the hairdressers.

In December 2015, a delivery driver for a Chinese takeaway was knocked unconscious by a brick thrown at his car as he travelled along Albert Street and was robbed as he lay at the wheel of his vehicle.
