THE father of a Co Tyrone woman jailed in England for planning to take her three young children to live in Syria has said his daughter was wrongly convicted.

Muslim convert Lorna Moore, originally from Mountjoy close to Omagh, wanted to bring her children, including an 11-month-old baby, up under the so-called Islamic State (IS).

But her father Noel, who still lives in the village, said his daughter had been the victim of a miscarriage of justice.

Moore (34), a former member of Mountjoy Presbyterian Church, was also accused of failing to tell authorities her husband Sajid Aslam (34) was about to leave for Syria.

Aslam was part of a large network that heeded the militants' call for volunteers in 2014.

"It was a miscarriage of justice, it couldn't be anything else, my daughter didn't know where the man was going," Mr Moore told the BBC.

"I think the whole thing's rubbish from start to finish.

"Somebody's been accused of something they didn't do and getting two and a half years in jail for it.

"She didn't know that the man was going to go away. He didn't come back home after a week of holidays."

Mr Moore added: "She thought too much of her youngsters to take them over there".

"How would you be feeling if it happened to your daughter. It's a very difficult time, what else could it be."

Moore insisted she would 'never' put her children's lives in danger and told the court "they mean the world to me.".

She claimed she had been planning to take them back to Omagh after finishing her teacher training. Her mother backed up her claim.

But sentencing Moore at the Old Bailey on Monday, Judge Charles Wide QC described the trainee maths teacher as a "very strong character" and said she "knew perfectly well of [her] husband's dedication to terrorism".

"One of the troubling things about you is your facility for telling lies," he added.
