The Ulster Unionist MLA who replaced Tom Elliott at Stormont after the MP's election to Westminster is taking time off from the assembly, the party has said.

Fermanagh-South Tyrone representative Neil Somerville is off work for an unspecified period due to "stress and wellbeing issues".

"The party both locally and at leadership level is fully committed to doing what it can to support Neil at this time and would ask that everyone respect his privacy," the UUP statement said yesterday.

The 42-year-old businessman from Clogher, Co Tyrone, Mr Somerville replaced Mr Elliott at Stormont in June.
