VETERAN Irish and BBC broadcaster Terry Wogan  has pulled out of presenting this year's Children In Need.

According to the BBC the Limerick man will not be presenting the charity fundraiser "due to health reasons".

The 77-year-old, who has hosted the telethon every year since it became a televised event in 1980, confirmed he would be missing the "wonderful, inspiring evening" for the first time but would still be supporting it from afar.

Wogan said: "The British public, as always, will dig deep in their pockets and purses to help the country's disadvantaged children, knowing that every penny will go to those who need it most.

"I'm going to miss our wonderful, inspiring evening together, but I'll be with you, watching, cheering and donating to a magnificent cause."

The BBC said a replacement host will be announced at a later date.
