A PIPE bomb discovered in a residential street in in east Belfast has been declared viable.

Army bomb squad officers dealt with the device discovered in Island Street in the early hours of Thursday morning.

No homes were evacuated during the alert, which ended at about 6am.

The PSNI have said that the device was viable and have appealed for anyone with information to contact police at Musgrave Street.
