BELFAST is the latest city to play host to a cycle-revolution, with some of its busiest streets closed to traffic on Sunday to make way for two-wheeled travel.

Ciclovía, described by a`spokes'-woman as a worldwide phenomenon, is a health and community based initiative which closes a part of the city to traffic, on a given day, for a specific period of time.

The aim is to give cyclists the opportunity to ride through the traffic free zone of the city and create a mini festival environment which will attract and encourage people to come into the city centre, on their bikes, and enjoy the freedom and sense of community.

The route along Botanic Avenue, Shaftesbury Square, Dublin Road and Bedford Street to the City Hall will be closed from 9am to 12.45pm for cyclists of all abilities and ages.

Organisers plan lots of free family fun , including a `Bling up your Bike' competition with Sustrans NI, free cycle skills training for new or returning cyclists and musical entertainment.
