THE MOTHER of a three-month old baby girl has died suddenly while on a short break in Spain.

Aisling Anderson (22) had been engaged for just two weeks and was on a weekend away in the Majorca resort of Santa Ponsa with her fiancé when she took ill.

The couple, from Belfast, were enjoying their first night out and had left a bar at 10pm last Thursday when Aisling collapsed outside. Her partner was later told she had died of heart failure.

The second youngest of six-children, Ms Anderson is from Ardoyne in north Belfast.

Her partner Michael McGrann has returned home to care for the children, Michael (4) and baby daughter Ava-Rose. Two of Ms Anderson's sisters have travelled to Majorca to make arrangements for her remains to be returned to Belfast.

Sinn Féin councillor Gerard McCabe, an uncle of Ms Anderson, said the family were "absolutely devastated" and described his niece as "a devoted mother, full of charisma and always smiling".

"They took off for a long weekend break to Majorca for a couple's break. Aisling had no underlying health issues, but had some dental work done so she had a little discomfort with that, but nothing anyone would have been concerned about," he said.

"They flew out on Thursday and were due back on Monday. When they got to Santa Ponsa, they got sorted with their hotel, and then went for a couple of drinks in a bar. Aisling would rarely have had any more than three drinks. At 10pm they left the bar and Aisling just collapsed outside."
