RELATIVES of a young woman killed in a road crash in Co Armagh say a light has gone out in their lives.

Danica Nugent died in a one-vehicle collision on the Newry Road near Crossmaglen on Sunday morning.

A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of several motoring offences following the crash and was still being questioned last night.

Ms Nugent had recently graduated from Queen's University Belfast having studied Land Use and Environmental Management.

The 23-year-old from Tassagh, near Keady in south Armagh, was due to begin studying for her Masters.

Grieving family members visited the scene of the crash on Sunday afternoon.

Her uncle, Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan, described her as a "bright, popular, loving girl".

"Her friends and family are absolutely devastated. A bright light in all our lives has gone out," he told an Armagh news blog.

Ms Nugent is survived by her parents Damian and Siobhan and brothers Matthew and Ethan.

Police appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.

The tragedy comes a fortnight after Peter Hughes, Gavin Sloan and Conall Havern, also from the south Armagh and south Down areas, died in a two-car collision on the A1.

The three Queen's University students were travelling back from visiting their new student house in Belfast.

Meanwhile, a man who died in a crash between the motorbike he was riding and a van in Co Mayo has been named as Robert Wright.

The crash happened at about 1.20pm on Sunday on the Hollymount to Claremorris Road.

The 55-year-old father-of-three was from Stranocum, near Ballymoney in north Antrim.

He worked at Chestnutt Animal Feeds in the village and was a member of the Orange Order and Royal Black Preceptory.
