FROM BOATS, bluegrass and bake-offs to aeroplane displays and antics from comics, the Sea Bangor festival had plenty to offer over the weekend.

The event was held on Bangor seafront in a tented village hosting food, family fun, music, comedy and much more.

Outside of the tents there were some more eye-catching attractions: in the water was the tall ship Morgenster, in the sky were the two Twister Aerobatics display planes and shooting up from the water to the sky was the Jetlev-Flyer.

The latter is basically a person in a water-powered jet-pack zooming up and out of the water, with some children on the pier thinking they were watching Iron Man at work.

Wendy Smith, events officer for Ards and North Down Borough Council, said the two-day event was a huge success.

“We had a competition for someone to get the chance to give the Jetlev-Flyer a go,” she said. “People had to write in to say why they should be picked. The family of the winner wrote in and said that his kids believed he was a superhero and if they could see him fly then they’d believe it. And he had an amazing time.”

She said Sea Bangor was back in action for the first time since 2011.

"I’m thrilled it’s back because it’s one of my favourite events. There’s loads of local people here as well as tourists."

As well as the many food stalls, people watched the `Great Bangor Bake-off’ as competitors had to make a `Sea Bangor’ cake on Saturday and an afternoon tea platter yesterday.

The festival also featured street theatre and the Cahoots NI show Tiddlers, while acts yesterday in the Shanty Shack tent – programmed by Open House Festival – featured the bands Wookalily, Lonesome George and Mark Braidner and comics George Firehorse, Gavin Webster and Tony Law.
