Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar kept things light-hearted during a visit from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday, wearing a fun pair of socks to show his fondness for Canada.
Varadkar donned a colourful pair of Canadian-themed socks, red with a Mountie and maple leaf pattern, during a press conference with the Canadian leader.
Trudeau is visiting Ireland with his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and their young son Hadrien as part of a visit including Scotland and ending in Hamburg for the G20 summit.
Trudeau was not left out of the fun sock game, however.
Varadkar, who was elected on June 14, presented him with a pair of Irish-themed socks and a personalised rugby shirt to mark his trip, which included a visit to the Famine memorial statues and meeting with Irish sports players at Farmleigh House in Dublin.
The Irish Taoiseach probably had the idea for the sock-off after Trudeau was spotted in a special pair of rainbow socks to celebrate both the end of Ramadan and the beginning of LGBTQ pride.

As well as showing off their footwear, the pair discussed trade and migration.
“There are tremendous opportunities for countries like Canada and Ireland at a time where perhaps our significant allies and trading partners, in the case of the UK and US, are turning inward or at least turning in a different direction, to make the pitch that Canada and Ireland are places that are exciting and open to the world in a positive, progressive way,” Trudeau said.
