Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand, was £9, now £7.50, Sainsbury’s

This Sauvignon won a Gold standard at The Drinks Business Global Sauvignon Blanc Masters 2020. It is sweet, showing ripe fruit characters and with nice mix of citrus, floral, pear and tropical fruit abound from this wine. Powerful on the palate, it is almost pungent in its intensity with full fruit flavours across the spectrum, from ripe tropical fruit to lush pink grapefruit. 

Entre Quintas Rotwein, Portugal, £8.49, Lidl

Red wines from the Douro area of Portugal range in style from light and fruity to lush and smooth to dark and dense with flavours of mature dark fruit. The wines are often and inky purple due to the thickening of the skins from the intense summer heat of the region. This example offers aromas of red and black fruits and subtle spice lead to a harmonious palate with a long, concentrated finish. A perfect match for lamb or steak.

Mouton Cadet Bordeaux Rosé, France, £8, Centra 

As with most Rosé wine from quality regions, the wines are dry and have appealing young cherry and strawberry fruit. This Mouton Cadet is made from a mix of Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. 

A supple and fresh attack by the fruit on the nose leads into a rich and elegant mid-palate and a lingering finish full of freshness and more fruit depth.
