Easter is celebrated by friends and families around the world. But from place to place, there are many different traditions and dishes... and many different wines to pair with each meal. Here's a few for your to try over the weekend...

The Ned Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand, £8, Sainsbury’s

Zesty and fruity, it has gooseberry flavours with a smoky, herbal twist. Wine-maker Brent Marris took the name from The Ned, a rugged peak near the Waihopai River. Saturated aromas of passionfruit, lime zest and pink grapefruit dominate. It’s really nice wine to serve with fresh or smoked salmon, or prawn dishes. Crisp, fresh flavours awaken your taste buds without overpowering the delicate fish.

Encostas de Caiz Avesso 2022, Vinho Verde, Portugal, £7.99, Lidl

Full of verve, you simply can’t beat Vinho Verde for versatility and a great all-rounder. Made from Avesso, one of the best grapes in Vinho Verde, this dry white is light with fruit purity and balance. Containing gentle aromas of pear and grapefruit, this wine has a light spritz and is pleasantly flavoursome. Part of Lidl’s Spring Wine Tour, this mouth-watering wine is one to wash down with smoked salmon canapés and savoury appetisers.

WINE OF THE WEEK

Canti Pinot Grigio, Italy, was £6.50, now £5.50, Asda

Canti is a delicate and sophisticated Prosecco Spumante from the banks of Lake Garda in the Veneto region. It is produced by one of the leading family-owned wineries in Italy renowned for its superb quality wines. It’s quite a nice wine and well worth a try if you like Pinot Grigio. Great as an aperitif – but perfect with fish –  and pasta with delicate sauces.
