IT'S a well-established fact that listening to classic music has a soothing effect on babies and that introducing children to music at a young age is hugely beneficial. Following on from their successful Chamber Babies concerts, the Belfast Music Society have created a new classical music album for young listeners which is designed to stimulate, engage and relax.

The promoters of live classical chamber music will launch their Chamber Babies CD at two live events on December 5, aimed at babies from 0-18 months old and their parents.

The popular Chamber Babies concerts feature professional classical musicians from the north of Ireland, as well as internationally acclaimed harpist Tanya Houghton, performing selections of short classical pieces that are carefully chosen to be suitable for babies and adults alike. The concerts are very informal, and you can walk, sway, crawl, roll, dance or just chill out.

“Belfast Music Society is delighted to bring Chamber Babies back to Belfast audiences. This year, we are thrilled to release our Chamber Babies CD, which has been funded through our Belfast Music Society Friends initiative, with all pieces carefully chosen to engage and enchant babies and adults alike," says Paul Smith from Belfast Music Society.

"Each piece is short, tuneful and accessible and all the recordings are by top professional artists of the original music which offers the best quality listening experience for all listeners."

The Chamber Babies CD, priced £10 (+P&P), has 17 tracks featuring a range of different instrumental combinations, duos and solos with a variety of styles and moods. Some tracks are lively and some more gentle and soothing featuring household names including Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Dvó?ak, as well as less familiar composers such as Chaminade, Boccherini and Tárrega.

The Chamber Babies concert costs £5 per adult and babies go free (1 adult per baby). For tickets and to order CDs visit belfastmusicsociety.org..
