ALL-IRELAND champions Tipperary have secured seven slots on the PwC GAA/GPA Hurling All-Star team after a fantastic 2025 season that saw them capture the Liam McCarthy Cup for the first time since 2019 after a second half masterclass against Munster rivals Cork.
It’s no surprise that Tipperary command nearly half of the team given the dream year they experienced.
Tipp missed out on a place in the Munster final, finishing in third place behind eventual winners Cork and Limerick, but a heroic display on the biggest day of the all saw them crowned All-Ireland champs.
Captain Ronan Maher leads the way for the Premier County with a third individual award of his career, adding to the All-Stars he collected in 2016 and 2019, also in All-Ireland winning years.
Sharpshooter John McGrath nabs a second, with his first coming back in 2016. Goalkeeper Rhys Shelly, defenders Robert Doyle and Eoghan Connolly along with attackers Jake Morris and Andrew Ormond are first time recipients for Liam Cahill’s men.
There are five counties represented in total on the team of the year with beaten All-Ireland finalists Cork, Galway, Dublin and Kilkenny also included.
The Rebels earned four All-Star awards in the form of first time winners Seán O’Donoghue, Ciarán Joyce and Brian Hayes while Darragh Fitzgibbon becomes a third time winner as he was also honoured in 2018 and 2024.
Dublin were the surprise package in the All-Ireland semi-finals this year, following their tremendous victory over Limerick, and Cian O’Sullivan is their first All-Star winner since Danny Sutcliffe in 2013.
Huw Lawlor and Martin Keoghan represent Kilkenny on the team of the year, claiming places in defence and attack respectively. It’s the third time in five years that Lawlor has been presented with an All-Star trophy while it’s a first for Keoghan.
Cathal Mannion is the sole representative from Galway, who crashed out at the quarter-final stage, and he slots in at midfield, earning a second award to add to his first-time achievement of 2015.
Tipperary teammates John McGrath and Jake Morris have both been nominated for the PwC GAA/GPA Hurler of the Year, alongside Cork forward Brian Hayes, with the winner announced at the awards ceremony on Friday night at the RDS in Dublin.
Tipperary also have two nominations for PwC GAA/GPA Young Hurler of the Year in Darragh McCarthy and Robert Doyle and the pair face opposition from Limerick’s Adam English for that particular accolade.
