LOUGHGIEL survived both the emerging Storm Boela and anotehr from a very determined Edendork club that was still in celebratory mood following the footballers’ eclipse of a first Tyrone title less than 18 hours earlier.

It took the north Antrim side 12 minutes to open their account with a point from Anna McKillop. Edendork had already got the home crowd in good voice with points from Catherine Moohan (free) and the ever-dangerous Lára Devlin.

Eimear McKinley and Devlin swopped points before Rose McMullan and McKinley edged the Shamrocks into a 0-4 to 0-3 lead. Althoguh Devlin claimed her third score of the half in the 25th minute, Anna McKillop put her side one up at the break.

McMullan, from a free, pushed Loughgiel out to a lead of two points before frees each from the Moohan sisters and then a Devlin point from play between the 48th and 51st minutes had the Tyrone champions in the lead.

However they then lost midfielder Rona Mallon to a leg injury and the visitors seemed to capitalise immediately with Rose McMullan turning quickly to rifle home the only goal of the game in the next attack.

Louise McKillop added a point and then McMullan landed a free for the insurance point with five minutes left on the clock.

Both teams worked very hard on a heavy surface. For the home side Clara Doherty, the Moohan sisters, Lára Devlin and Mallon stood out while 16 years-old Rose McMullan continues to inspire her team with older hands such as the McKillop sisters, Úna McNaugthon and Shauna Doran providing the experience that wins them a home semi-final against Crosserlough next Saturday.

Mayobridge host Ballinderry in the other semi-final, also on Saturday next.

The only other camogie game to beat the weather was on the banks of Strangford Lough where Kilclief Beann Dearg overcame a half-time deficit of 1-4 to 1-2 to reach the Bridie McMenamin Shield semi-finals.

Anais Doherty scored the Carndonagh goal in the first half with a strike from Cora Swail setting up the home side for a wind-assisted second half. Swail and Zara Burns both hit the net after the break with Cara Doran pointing eight frees while their defence kept the Donegal champions to their interval total.
