Henry Shefflin has stepped down as manager of his former club, Ballyhale Shamrocks, after a second stint in the hot seat in south Kilkenny.

The 11-time All-Star and three-time former Hurler of the Year ended his last club championship season with a loss to St Martin’s of Wexford in the Leinster Club SHC final at Croke Park.

‘King Henry’ re-entered his role of manager after he left his job of four years as Galway senior hurling manager, winning the 2025 Kilkenny SHC and achieving two provincial wins on the way to the final.

Shefflin had led the south Kilkenny side to two All-Ireland titles in his first spell as manager in 2019 and 2020, along with two Leinster titles and two Kilkenny county titles.

The 10-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny won three All-Ireland titles with Ballyhale Shamrocks as a player, seeing the club go from the Intermediate championship in 1997 to Kilkenny, Leinster and All-Ireland champions.

The former forward will take up the role of the Kilkenny U20 hurling panel manager, to which he was appointed in September 2025.

Shefflin’s former team-mate Brian Hogan will join the Cats as a selector and coach in the set-up, as will the manager who ended his last season with Ballyhale, Seán Kelly of St Martin’s.
