ULSTER Camogie last night pleaded with people "not go out unless you really have to" after its chairman revealed she is battling Covid-19.

Jennifer Cultra also works as an ambulance driver and has been among those on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus.

Posting in its Facebook page, Ulster Camogie said that while it was a "difficult time" for everyone "we would ask you all to keep our amazing Ulster Camogie Chairperson, Jennifer Cultra in your thoughts and prayers as she battles Covid-19.

"Jennifer works with NIAS and has been working on the front line dealing with emergencies as well as sharing her wit and laughter in these sad times.

"We wish her well and hope to have her back to full health very soon. Jennifer's message is to please please do not go out unless you really have to," the organisation said.

Speaking to The Irish News, Rosemary Hughes-Merry, former secretary of Ulster Camogie, described Jennifer, who lives in Kilclief, Co Down, as a "great person" and said everyone is sending wishes for recovery.

"She is very upbeat about everything and has a great personality," she said.

"Camogie is her life. She is a former member of the National Fixtures Committee. She is very capable and very open and very honest and very much into change and includes everybody and relishes people giving talks and ideas."

Rosemary said Jennifer, who has two sons, works as an ambulance driver and is recently "just back from training".

"We hope for a speedy recovery," she said.

"She is really missed. She is such a kind person. She is very open and warm and honest and loyal."

Many 'get well' messages were also left on Facebook, including from Armagh, Tyrone, Down and Mayo Camogie.

A friend also posted: "Get well soon Jenny.Your made of strong stuff," while another wrote: "I'm praying for you Jennifer just keep thinking of your next match and heading for that goal. You can do it, you're a camog made of strong stuff."
