BELFAST IT group Kainos has revealed plans to add 200 staff to its Canadian operation over the next three years, tripling its size.
The software company, which currently employs 100 people in Toronto, has opened a new office in the Ontarian capital.
Kainos first established an office in Canada during 2018.
Commenting on the opening of the new office base in Toronto, Padraig Callaghan, Kainos’ executive vice president, said: “The new office also gives us more space to grow and serve more local businesses.
“Over the next three years we hope to expand our team from 100 to over 300 people.”
Kainos’ expansion in Toronto has been supported by Invest Ontario, which operates a similar role to Invest NI.
The London-listed software firm now employs around 3,139 people across 23 countries.
The new Canadian office was opened as Kainos formally submitted a full planning application for the firm’s new Belfast headquarters on the site of the former Dublin Road Movie House Cinema.
When complete, the 14-storey scheme will become the IT group’s sole Belfast base.
Kainos recently asserted it has no plans to change its policy on allowing staff to work from home.
The group’s recently appointed new CEO Russell Sloan recently said the company would likely seek to sub-let part of the building to third parties.
Kainos has also sold 60% part of the former cinema site to Queen’s University, which has submitted plans for a new student accommodation scheme.
