MIAMI-based cruise company Royal Caribbean has announced plans to expand its summer 2024 offering from Belfast City Airport.

The expanded service will enable cruise guests to fly from Belfast direct to Barcelona or Bologna to board Royal Caribbean’s Oasis and Explorer of the Seas cruise liners.

The cruise company said it follows “incredible demand” for its 2023 charter programme from the airport.

The Barcelona flights launch from May 5 2024 through to September 22, with flights to Bologna, running from May 18 to October 26.

Royal Caribbean said passengers will then transfer to its Ravenna port on the Adriatic Sea to board the Explorer.

“These charters are possible thanks to the unbelievable trade support our previous charter programmes have received,” said Jennifer Callister, head of sales Ireland, Royal Caribbean International.

“When you combine this with a fantastic partner like Belfast City Airport, expanding the program was a no-brainer and a sign of our commitment to creating the best family holiday possible.”

Ellie McGimpsey, aviation development manager, said: “Following another successful summer offering passengers, a charter service to Bologna for easy access to the Explorer of the Seas, we are thrilled that Royal Caribbean has confirmed it will increase capacity from Belfast City Airport for summer 2024 with the return of Bologna and a brand new service to Barcelona.”
